Strategies for Reducing Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste

As the construction and demolition (C&D) industry continues to expand to meet the needs of a growing population, the issue of waste generation becomes increasingly prominent. Whether it’s residential buildings, commercial structures, or infrastructure projects, the demand for construction remains incessant worldwide.

However, this growth also results in a substantial amount of waste. Shockingly, C&D waste accounts for 40% of the total solid waste generated globally each year, with the United States alone producing nearly 100 million tons of waste annually.

While some waste generation is inevitable, there exist numerous strategies to curtail this immense volume of waste. In the following sections, we’ll briefly outline several approaches that C&D companies of all sizes can implement to enhance waste reduction efforts and mitigate environmental damage.
